This year is special for the Three-time Olympic champion Maria Kiseleva. Her favorite project - New Year's show on the water, created specifically for children and adults, is 5 years old.
In the very first year, when we did the show "The Little Mermaid and the Treasures of the Pirates," Nonna Grishaeva came to us with her children. And, having watched the play, she said: "You can’t even imagine WHAT you did !!!" Bearing in mind that our project is something completely new, interesting, unusual, necessary, important and good. And it was precisely these words of Nonna that were very deeply remembered. Although five years have passed, I remember this review and am grateful for it. We probably really did not understand at that moment what would happen. But I really wanted to do something special. I wanted to get such an important and necessary, valuable, high-quality, unusual, popular, updated every year, long-existing and not annoying story. Every year we put our soul into the project, create, try to find something new, combine unconnected things for the audience, for the sake of their enthusiastic responses.
- Remember your feelings before the premiere of the first show? What did you feel?
- There was excitement, and it’s normal when you do something new, something that you burn and sick of, for which you don’t sleep at night. First of all, I wanted everything to work out and the audience liked it. And also, that in the first year it struck and impressed. It was incredibly pleasant to see how, after the performance, little girls and boys approached their parents and asked to write them in the sections of synchronized swimming, diving, acrobatics and other sports and art that they saw in our project. Apparently this way, accessible to children, albeit in an unusual way, we popularize these sports for young children. Everyone eventually finds something of his own. After all, we have involved three spaces - land, water and air. And everything that seems to be impossible to combine is harmoniously connected. And when this happens against the background of the original script, music, beautiful and unusual scenery and costumes, the emotions and sensations that the audience receives are completely new. Such emotions, which, perhaps, have never been before. This is valuable, this is expensive! And I want to continue to give these emotions to people, every year more and more.
- Maria, you are a very busy person, you have your own synchronized swimming school, work, children. What, in spite of being busy, makes you continue to make performances on water for a year now?
- Probably, this is a desire to create, develop, grow. Our performance goes on New Year's holidays - a time when everyone is waiting for magic. And we strive to give people this magic, joy, holiday, this very special New Year’s atmosphere. We try very hard not to repeat, I want to make surprises for our guests every time. Therefore, we constantly supplement our performance with something that may surprise. This year they decided to make unique scenery in a new format - 3D. Thanks to these decorations, the audience will seem to be in the cartoon and, together with our main characters, will travel almost around the world in search of the Northern Lights. We are always trying to make some kind of innovations, and what the audience liked and remember is to improve. So last year we showed flyboard tricks in all of our three performances (in Moscow, Petersburg and Kazan - approx. red.), the audience really liked it, and this year we decided to leave the flyboard in the program.
- Your show on the water has no equal, nothing like this in our country, and no one does in the world - there is virtually no competition. What makes every year to make a new show, make changes to it, and not just repeat last year’s program?
- Firstly, you can never relax. As soon as you calm down and it begins to seem that you can’t move on, everything is a dead end, a road to nowhere! I think this is the wrong way. Fortunately, our entire team understands this. We are very critical of ourselves, and we try to implement all our creative ideas at a fairly professional, high level. Every time we strive to move, look a step or two forward. We are constantly flying creative imagination, the search for new forms and solutions. And I'm really happy that this is happening, that there is a team of like-minded people that is on fire with our common cause. And to do the same performance every year in the same city, we are not interested. We accustomed the audience, and we ourselves believe that it can not be otherwise. Every year we have a premiere! Moscow becomes the premiere city, where a new performance is shown every year, and then the show moves to St. Petersburg, and then to Kazan. So the work on the play from the premiere in Moscow lasts another three years.
- How different is the way the audience accepts the show in different cities - in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kazan?
- I would not say that there is some fundamental difference. Although it is generally accepted that the audience in St. Petersburg is one, in Moscow it is completely different. In all cities, our shows are very warmly received. For Kazan, and for the whole republic of Tatarstan, where we first showed our performance last year, this was generally an unusual project. At first, people did not understand what was at stake. But fortunately, they liked the performance, and this year they are looking forward to our next performance.
- Every year in the show - amazing new items, ranging from phenomenal costumes and unique numbers to the star cast. How do you find room ideas?
- We are in constant creative search. There are a lot of ideas, not everything can be realized right away, but it happens when something finds its embodiment in a year or two. My own children become an inspiration for me, who are waiting for this performance and every year they ask: "Mom, what will happen next year?" I check some ideas on them to understand whether it will be interesting for children ... And synchronized swimming in itself is a sport in which there is simply an inexhaustible, bottomless supply of creativity and inspiration, and you can fantasize endlessly. After all, this sport is only 50%, and the second 50% - pure art and crazy beauty. Ideas and fantasies can arise at any moment - from a watched performance or film, from a read book, from music, an exhibition, from some event in life! They everywhere! These are emotions.
- Your daughter Dasha participated in several shows as a heroine. Why did you decide to use it? What was her impression? Will she take part this year?
- Dasha played one of the main roles in the performances for two years in a row - in Through the Looking Glass and in the Land of Dreams. She really liked it! And every year she remembers and asks: "What will I do next year?" Of course, she will participate in this year’s premiere performance, “Save the Northern Lights,” but this time she doesn’t play a major role. Dasha will perform along with other girls from my synchronized swimming sports school. Having learned that this time she will act as a real synchronized synchronizer, Dasha was very happy. Children participating in the project enjoy the work, and I also really like that they live in this creative process. In fact, it is very difficult - two weeks of performances of three performances a day! This is morally difficult enough. At each performance, any artist should give his best: not just professionally perform his work, but also emotionally - this is the same performance! It is imperative to convey the image and mood to the viewer. We must pay tribute: to children, and artists, and athletes, and actors who participate in the play - they all enjoy it. And for this I am very grateful to them. They treat the show as something that brings joy, and share this joy with the audience.
- Synchronized swimming masters perform amazingly in every show. There were real burning candles on the water, and amazing numbers. How will their numbers differ now?
- There are a lot of ideas, but I don’t want to talk about them in advance. I want to surprise the audience! I can only admit that I put all the numbers on the water myself, but we share ideas with our entire large creative team. We have all become experts in this field for so many years of work. And every time we try to find something new. I hope that this year we will be able to surprise also, because there will be new numbers, unlike those that were before.
- To participate in the show every year you invite stars - sports, theater, show business, stage. Do they easily agree to participate in such a large-scale project?
- Easy enough. People are willing to work, and they like it. We have a lot of athletes on the site: synchronized swimming, swimmers, diving, trampolining, jetski, flyboard, rhythmic gymnastics - a variety of sports. Moreover - people who constantly work with us - and there are many of them! -Very waiting for these performances, are interested in the schedule, the characters, they want to know what to prepare for. Circus artists, various choreographic groups, and dramatic actors constantly cooperate with us. Our athletes during the project also became real artists and often play major roles in the play. And when the audience, thinking that they are facing a professional actor, see how he begins to do sports tricks ... it is simply amazing! And this is another achievement for us. Our guys discover their creativity in the show, enrich their inner world, and then move on, starting to develop in this direction as well. It turns out that we give people the opportunity to see themselves on the other side, to discover new opportunities in themselves. This is great! It inspires and inspires!
- Speaking of celebrities, who will be in the project this year?
- This year we have a fabulous "commentator" in the show. And the voice of Dmitry Guberniev is so recognizable and so accurately falls into the image that we did not consider any other candidates. Dima with great pleasure agreed! I am grateful to all the stars with whom we worked. This is Garik Sukachev, and Tanya Lazareva, Oscar Kuchera, Ivan Okhlobystin and many, many of our celebrities, actors, presenters who agreed to participate in our show and voiced the main characters. It seems to me, and the audience who come to the stands, very pleased to hear the voices of their favorite artists, which are said by the heroes of the performance.
And the fact that every year stars come to us with their children is also an assessment of our work. I am grateful to them for taking the time and opportunity to come to us with their family, with the dearest people in the world, with their children. They come smiling, with luminous eyes, but this is the most valuable thing when you can rejoice and be surprised at something with your family. And this is so important and valuable for us that we can give people real lively emotions.
- In your show, every time the tree appears out of the water and each time it amazes the audience. And what can surprise you on New Year’s day? What makes you feel the best on New Year's Eve?
- My New Year is always associated with childhood. This is a tree, the smell of tangerines, snow, such magical sensations from simple things. And, of course, desires. For some reason, on New Year's Eve, there is faith and a clear feeling that all the wishes made will come true. Just because it's a magical night, New Year. And, of course, the faith in Santa Claus of my children is the same as mine when I was little. My parents managed to create this aura of Santa Claus presence - I don’t know how they did it, but I believed in it for a very long time. Because every time I had to punch my watch, I ran to the New Year tree and found a gift under it. And in the room there was freezing air and a full sensation of the presence of a New Year's wizard. These feelings remained to this day, for which I am grateful to my parents, and I will try to create such a mood for my children at the holiday.
- One way to create a magical holiday mood is to come to your show. What would you wish your viewers and all parents in the New Year?
- I am extremely grateful to all the spectators who come to our performances! I hope we manage to convey these notes of joy, these indescribable emotions and fabulous sensations with our projects. I want to believe that we can surprise you further! I would like to wish you magic, bright, unusual emotions and fulfillment of desires, the most cherished that are. And yet, do not be afraid to make wishes and believe that they will come true!
The premiere of the anniversary performance "Save the Northern Lights" will take place in December.
