How did the duffle coat appear?
Duffle coat, or duffle coat is named after the name of the material from which it is sewn. Warm camel wool duffle fabric has been made since the 17th century in the Belgian city of Duffle (Dufel). Even then, local fishermen wore jackets with a hood made of duffle - probably, these clothes can be considered the "ancestor" of modern duffle coat. The first samples of a duffle coat were created in the middle of the 19th century by the British tailor John Partridge. The material was soon taken as the basis for sewing uniforms for English sailors. The coat for the sailors was quite long (just above the knee) and spacious, so as not to hamper the movements and give the opportunity to put on top of other clothes. The pockets are large, as is the hood: it could be put on a cap. Then the same large elongated buttons and hinges were invented.
In World War I, sailors of the Royal Navy wore a duffle coat; in World War II, infantry was also dressed in it. With the advent of peace, army clothing gradually became civilian: a warm and comfortable duffle coat was already made for everyone.
