A variation of the decor of a bag or clutch: stripes of festoons sewn in a checkerboard pattern create the effect of scales.

This decor method is suitable if you sew a handbag or clutch from vinyl, artificial leather, genuine leather, artificial or natural suede: the material should be dense and not crumbling. If you sew from genuine leather or dense suede, it is better to take special needles for the skin. Faux leather or vinyl can also be sewn with denim needles. Also, for better gliding, you may need a special foot. Option - use tracing paper or waxed paper, laying it on the material and laying a line on top. Then the paper is easily removed. For such a project, you need to lay a lot of lines, sewing scallops on the front side of the material, therefore it is important.

By the way, with this decor of leather or vinyl, you can decorate the bag that you sew, for example, from thick fabric.

The lined handbag / clutch itself can be sewn using one of these workshops:

A simple clutch with sequins: a master class

Below is a master class of decorating the side of the handbag with festoons. Decor should be done after the details of leather or vinyl are cut out, but before you start stitching them.

You will need:

- leather, vinyl, artificial leather and so on;

- scalpel or breadboard knife and rug;

- ruler;

- a pencil;

- clamps;

- sewing machine and thread.

Step 1

Draw stripes patterns with scallops. In width, they should be equal to the width of the bag, including allowances, the size of the festoons - at your discretion. You need two patterns with scallops in a checkerboard pattern. The template is good to make from thick cardboard, it will be easier to work.

Step 2

Cut a cut of vinyl from the inside into strips of festoons. If you want the entire bag to be covered with scallops, as in this example, the amount of material required will be approximately 2 times the size of the decorated part of the bag. You need the same number of stripes, drawn according to the first and second pattern. Cut strips of scallops with a scalpel / knife.

Step 3

Start sewing scallops from the bottom. Attach the strip with clamps and sew the stitch.

Step 4

Sew the following stripes on top of the previous ones, observing equal distances between the stripes and the chessboard order of the festoons.

The top strip of the last scallop should go into the allowance at the top of the bag. Next, sew the bag on the master classes noted above.
